State Prize Mobility 2021 goes to HyCentA for the project UpHy

The State Prize for Mobility 2021 in the category Research. Develop. New ways. on 28.04.2022 went to HyCentA for the project UpHy. This is the highest award, which Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler awards to Austrian organizations on behalf of the BMK. It honors mobility innovations that pave Austria’s way to climate neutrality by 2040 and support the vision of becoming a pioneer in climate protection. Over the past 4 years, UpHy has developed analytical methods for ensuring gas quality and calibrating the dispensing quantity at gas pumps. These previously missing technologies provide a building block for a more rapid expansion of the H2 refuelling infrastructure. For this purpose, the most advanced hydrogen analysis laboratory in Austria was opened as part of UpHy

In addition, scenarios of possible expansion concepts for green H2 production and associated H2 logistics were investigated and developed. Building on this, a complete green H2 value chain is now being implemented on an industrial scale for the first time in Austria in the follow-up project UpHy II. A 10 MW electrolysis at the refinery Schwechart enables partial decarbonization of the refinery and the supply H2 for numerous H2 filling stations.
